Need help with your Gravity Water System?

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Gravity Water System filter last?

Each filter within the Gravity Water System has a different filter life.

Ceramic Pre-filter: Up to one year
5-stage Filter: 6 months (1,800 L or 475 GAL)
Fluoride Filter: 4 months (1,200 L or 317 GAL)
Mineral Stones: Up to two years

Please note the Gravity Water System comes with the following filters included: Ceramic Pre-filter, Fluoride Filter and Mineral Stones. The 5-stage Filter is not included in the purchase of the Gravity Water System but is available as a replacement filter. The 5-stage Filter can be used in the Gravity Water System instead of the Fluoride Filter. It is an alternative option for those who do not have fluoride in their water, or for those who choose not to filter fluoride.

How do I know when it's time to replace my filter?

Simply register your product to Filter Ease and we'll send you an email and/or text reminder when it's time for a filter replacement.

How do I prepare my Gravity Water System before use?

Each filter within the Gravity Water System needs to be conditioned before use.

Ceramic Pre-filter
-Soak in cool water for ten minutes.
-Using the included grey scrub pad (or equivalent), scrub the top of the Ceramic Pre-filter using moderate pressure.
-Note: You are removing a thin layer of ceramic material, this is normal and by design.

Fluoride Filter and 5-stage Filter
-Run water through the top of the filter until the water runs clear out the bottom.
-Shake the filter while running water through it. The purpose of this step is to remove any excess Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) pieces.
-Note: Place a white surface (e.g. a plate) in the sink under the filter. This will let you more easily see the black GAC pieces.

Mineral Stones
-Rinse the Mineral Stones.
-Boil the Mineral Stones for 1 - 2 minutes, then let air dry.

How often should I clean my Gravity Water System?

We recommend routine cleaning of the entire system each time you change the Fluoride or 5-stage Filter.

By how much does the Gravity Water System increase the pH of water?

The Gravity Water System increases the pH of water by about 1.5 - 2.0 units on the pH scale. Results may vary depending on the source water.

How can I test the pH of my water?

We recommend a liquid pH testing solution, such as the Santevia Water pH Test Kit, or an electronic instrument. Note: you cannot use pH litmus paper to test water. Litmus paper test strips are typically used for mixed liquids such as blood, urine or saliva but are not very accurate when measuring the pH of plain water. In addition, if the litmus paper is not formulated to check for mineral content (calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, etc.) which is what makes the Santevia water alkaline, you will get a "neutral" or non-result. Expected results are a pH increase by about 1.5 - 2.0 units on the pH scale. Results may vary depending on the source water.

What is the difference between the Gravity Water System Countertop and Dispenser models?

The Countertop Model is a free-standing, independent unit that needs no attachments or plug-ins. It will produce room-temperature water.

The Dispenser Model must be paired with a compatible third-party water cooler unit, as it is designed to work in tandem with one of these units. Water from the Dispenser Model flows into the water cooler unit and is then available hot or cold, depending on the model of the water cooler used. Both models use the same filters (Ceramic Pre-filter, 5-stage Filter or Fluoride Filter, and Mineral Stones).

How do I choose a water cooler for my Gravity Water System Dispenser model?

There are plenty of compatible water cooler units on the market. They need to fit the following qualifications:

  • Relatively flat top, for the Dispenser Model to sit on.
  • They must have a removable bottle collar.
  • Once the bottle collar is removed, there must be at least a 6-inch void space remaining, in order to accommodate the Dispenser model's float valve.

How do I adjust the Float Valve on my Dispenser model?

  • The cup of the float valve is attached to the stem by a threaded piece.
  • Hold the stem by placing your thumb and finger on the threads and twist the cup.
  • You can lengthen or shorten the stem by twisting the plastic lock nut up or down the stem.
  • Lengthen the stem if your Dispenser overflows or leaks.
  • Shorten the stem if your Dispenser does not fill enough.

How do I deal with algae?

Although not common, if algae are growing in your Gravity Water System, it can easily be remedied by following these steps:

  • Clean the system with a 25% solution of white vinegar or a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide.
  • Use a soft, new sponge to scrape the algal film off the affected components. Please refrain from utilizing a used kitchen sponge as this usually contains bacteria from food particles.
  • Use a Q-tip to further remove any remaining algae in spots that are difficult to reach with a sponge.
  • Thoroughly wash, then dry, the cleaned system. Please note that some dish detergents contain phosphates that can encourage algae growth.
  • Boil the Mineral Stones for between 5 - 10 minutes then let air dry.
  • Replace the 5-stage/Fluoride Filter if affected, or if it is past its filter life.
