Being in the health and wellness industry, it can sometimes take a lot to really WOW us here in the Santevia office. Joyous Health: Eat and Live Well without Dieting by Joy McCarthy impressed all of us! Within 24 hours of receiving some copies for the office (which you can currently by at amazon.ca for half price!), employees were ordering multiples for themselves, their mothers, friends, you name it. Not only is it filled with tons of great recipes, it explains WHY eating these types of foods are important to your body and overall health. It really is a guide to eating and living well, while still eating delicious foods.
To be perfectly honest, I’ve never been one for following recipes – they generally require too many ingredients which I’ll use once and never again, and have so many steps that I’ll starve before I ever finish the recipe! (I’m always hungry….maybe it’s the Italian in me). I was shocked to see how EASY Joy made it. In addition to being beautifully laid out and filled with gorgeous pictures, the recipes generally have only a handful of ingredients and the directions are straightforward and simple. My favourite element is the food guide you’ll find at the top of each recipe telling you whether the recipe is vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, raw, or even good for detox. With allergies and food intolerances becoming more common, hosting friends for dinner can often be a cause for stress. This book has something for everyone…..even chocoholics, like me. Speaking of which, my fresh batch of Chocolate Mint Pudding is calling my name…..
